We offer a variety of optional and seasonal activities for $3/child/activity. Each activity takes approximately 30 to 45 min. and may be limited in number of participants per session.
Additional topics/activities not listed may be available. For example, a group of scouts may want to tailor an activity toward earning badges.
Just ask when you schedule your visit and we will try to accommodate your group and their needs.
*Please note that some activities may not be available due to weather conditions beyond our control. Substitutions may be made.
Optional Seasonal Offerings - to make the trip to our farm even more educational and fun for children, each month we will offer a different class topic/activity.
The current schedule is:
April 1-15 - "Chicks and Eggs" - see why poultry is the number one agricultural industry in Mississippi and make chicken crafts or have an Easter Egg Hunt.
April 16-30 - "Digging Dirt" - learn about different types of soil, drainage, and erosion control; then dig in the dirt.
May - "Sowing Seeds" - discussion of the life cycle of plants and the parts of a plant. Children will also learn about garden tools and then they will plant seeds.
June - "Forage Fun" - the children will watch entertaining videos about tractors and the things kids want to know about farming.
July - "Grow a Pizza" the children will learn about the ingredients in a pizza then they will prepare their own paper pizzas to take home.
or "Between the Slices" a demonstration of farm products used in making sandwiches as they "construct" different types of "sandwiches."
August - "Cotton Counts" - an in-depth look at cotton plants and production. Children will view a video, see samples of the stages of cotton production, and discuss products and by-products.
September - "Counting on Corn" - learn how corn is helping solve our energy needs as well as supplying food for people and feed for livestock.
October - "Soybeans Sleuths" - discussion of the life cycle of a soybean and products made from soybeans, from soyfoods to biofuel.
Other classes/topics available upon request include: bees and bugs, cattle, horses and horse tack, tractors, and trees.
